We are delighted the New Performing Arts Centre at Pipers Corner School has been shortlisted for a prestigious Lux Award for lighting design.
Working with Nichols Brown Webber Architects and Adrian James Acoustics (theatre consultants), we designed the full house lighting system, to a professional theatre standard. LEDs are common in most sectors now, but their adoption has been slow in performing arts due to issues with dimming and colour fidelity. The Pipers Corner installation uses an innovative dimming system to achieve a very smooth fade-out for the all-LED house lighting. Full integration of the house lighting and stage lighting systems was achieved using bespoke DMX controls. Careful attention was paid to the colour rendering of light fittings, ensuring the best quality of light is delivered where it matters. Our Building Physics team undertook detailed thermal modelling of the stage lighting, to establish operational and peak loads for the mechanical systems design. This attention to detail helped to manage energy and maintenance costs for the school, with the project successfully gaining BREEAM Very Good certification. The award ceremony will be in London in November, so watch this space.
