Mamma Mia Pizzeria
Mamma Mia Pizzeria in Summertown is a well-known North Oxford restaurant, popular with local residents, students and tourists alike. First opened in 1981, it has served pizzas and Italian food to generations of appreciative customers. Although much loved, the original restaurant in South Parade was very tight for space. The kitchen lacked a separate prep area or back of house staff facilities, while guest toilets could not accommodate wheelchairs.
Happily, the premises next door became available, offering almost double the floor area and covers. CBG Consultants were pleased to be appointed as MEP services consultants to covert the former shop unit into a new restaurant. Despite the larger space, the nature of the Victorian building required careful planning of services routes. It is surrounded by residential housing, including an apartment above, so ventilation had to be designed to minimise both noise and smells. The internal areas were designed in conjunction with the interior designer and architect, ensuring Mamma Mia’s signature ambience was retained.
The resulting new restaurant has been a hit, keeping North Oxford well fed with great pizza, pasta and cocktails. We have been delighted to work with this iconic local business to help secure its ongoing success.
