At CBG, we have made a flying start to the New Year, opening the doors of our new Cambridge office last week. We are delighted, not only to have a new cutting-edge environment to foster creativity for our colleagues, but also to have the space shortlisted as an exemplary project by the British Council of Offices in their 2024 regional award. It is greatly rewarding to not only occupy a new office, but to have also been directly involved in the project design itself.

Located just a short walk from Cambridge station, this office is ideally situated in the centre of town. The office environment is inviting, with fantastic natural light, outside seating areas, tranquil water features, and landscaped garden areas.

Our commitment to sustainability is not only a concept we advocate but is a deeply ingrained principle in CBG’s design of the workspace. Working closely with our client and developer, Camel Projects, we have set the bar high for environmental and sustainable designs. This net zero office project is a testament to our dedication in designing greener, more efficient buildings. The office boasts a best-in-class EPC rating of A+ due to our unwavering focus on maintaining the highest sustainability credentials in design.

Some features which enable the A+ rating include Air Source Heat Pumps for heating and cooling, and hot water is generated by local Point of Use water heaters due to the low hot water demand. Using photovoltaic panels, 73.7% of the energy demand for the site is being met from renewable solar energy alone. A 40.125kWP array has been installed on the roof, which feeds into the electrical distribution system providing solar energy for the entire site. From July 2023 to January 2024, the PV system had generated 45,000kwh of electric which equates to a saving of 6,120 kg CO2e. In simpler terms, that is the same as driving 38,000 miles or hopping on a 63-hour flight!

This new chapter in Cambridge reflects not only our commitment to sustainability but also our desire to create spaces that inspire innovation and collaboration to provide our clients with the highest level of service. We are excited to see how it inspires our team in the year ahead.

"It has been fantastic to be involved in the new office opening. As a project that CBG has worked on, we have seen the offices develop over time. Now we have a fully functioning workspace for our colleagues to use. It is great to see how CBG’s engineering & design involvement has played an important role in integrating sustainability features into our own office space."
