The future of lighting technology is intertwined with our sustainability goals, and as we continue to explore innovative solutions, we focus on how these advancements can reduce environmental impact. As Stephanie Harris, Associate Lighting Designer at CBG, notes:
“When I think of innovative lighting technology, the first thing that comes to mind is the increasing use of sustainable and biodegradable materials. We’re seeing more of these options entering the market, providing eco-friendly solutions that help reduce environmental impact.
Biodegradable materials, which can naturally decompose without harming the environment, are becoming more prevalent in lighting design. Many manufacturers are turning to sustainable alternatives like bioplastics, which are made from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcane. These bioplastics are being used in components like lampshades, offering a green alternative to traditional plastics and helping to reduce landfill waste. Another exciting innovation is the use of organic fabrics such as cotton, linen, or hemp for lampshades.
These materials are fully biodegradable and contribute to sustainability by reducing reliance on synthetic fibres, while also offering a soft, natural aesthetic. By incorporating these sustainable materials, lighting design can align with the principles of a circular economy – a critical consideration for every project.”
CBG Consultants is not only invested in the latest lighting innovations but also in creating decarbonisation strategies for our clients. We understand the financial implications of moving toward low-carbon solutions and work closely with our clients to create phased plans that align with their budgets and aspirations.
The adoption of energy-efficient lighting systems, such as LED technology, remains a cornerstone of low-carbon design. These solutions, combined with smart lighting controls, help optimise energy use and create dynamic, responsive environments.
From the initial concept to project completion, we work closely with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to achieve outstanding results. Our designs are supported by the latest software, modelling tools, and best practices, ensuring that we not only meet but exceed project requirements in terms of performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
As we look to the future, we believe that innovation in lighting and building design will play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and creating healthier, more energy-efficient environments.
